Interview with Marios Matsakis, MEP.

Marios Matsakis MEP was concerned to hear that Mr Agapiou, the Head of Planning in Paphos, had apparently not complied with the instructions given to him at the Ministry of the Interior. He promised to make a point of contacting Mr Agapiou by phone the next day and report back to us.

He also took on board the problem that Mr Agapiou identified during the meeting at the Ministry of the Interior. When asked to make sure that documents would be available to us by Tuesday 10th January 2005, Mr Agapiou replied that the Attorney General had seized all the files relating to the project Accordingly, he was instructed by Mr Yiannis Papadopoulos to go to the Attorney general’s Office on Monday the 10th of January and retrieve photocopies of the necessary documents. Clearly he did not do so as the documents were not available for the meeting on 11th January 2005.

Mr Matsakis told us he would follow the matter up by telephone the next day. He phoned to say he now appreciated how difficult it was to contact Government employees and officials as he had drawn a complete blank with Mr Agapiou and the Attorneys General Office. However within a couple of days he had spoken with Mr Robertos Vrahimis the Lawyer of the Republic , who kindly gave Mr Matsakis his phone number so that we could phone him directly to find out where the case stood. We spoke about the case and he assured us that he would speak with the Police Marshall the next day and report back As of 1.3.2005 we have not heard anything.

We are very grateful to Mr Matsakis who we feel has done his level best to help us but like us, is frustrated by the difficulties of holding dialogue with Government Officials. He has agreed to keep trying.
