Interview with Dr Adamos Adamou, MEP
The first Cypriot MEP we met was Dr Adamos Adamou, who received us as expected in his office. He had contacted Aristo Developers and had spoken with them. In a letter to Theresa Villiers he stated that "he had looked into the matter and found that the problem is soon to be solved. The work to your constituent's property have already started and will soon be terminated". He advised us that he had visited the site and had found that work to the wall and patios was being carried out, but had not appreciated the extent of the remainder of the works required to put the houses back to a liveable and secure position.
We had to enlighten him to the problems that still remained. He was unaware that one of the major problems rested with Mr Agapiou - the Town Planning Officer of Paphos - who had not complied with agreement reached with Mr Y Papadopoulos, the Head of Town Planning for Cyprus. Dr Adamou was shocked to learn that a public servant was so lacking in his abilities to comply with the requirements imposed upon him by his superior, and in failing to honour the commitments made to us by Mr Papadopoulos.
We are grateful to Dr Adamou for seeing us and following up on our problem so quickly. He assured us that he would not let the matter rest there, but would try to contact Mr Agapiou to find out why he had not fulfilled his obligations towards us, and would get back to us in due course.
